William A. Weaver Jr., age 70 of Perry, NY passed away on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at Strong Memorial Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on December 16, 1953, in Oakland, CA., son to the late William A. and Evelyn (Chase) Weaver Sr.
William was a graduate of Ithaca High School and Morgantown University. He worked as a corrosion specialist at Dominion Energy in Silver Springs.
“Bill” was a very active Jehovah’s Witness, serving as an elder for about 40 years, most recently in the Rock Glen Congregation. He volunteered at the World Headquarters of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Brooklyn, NY, in the 1990’s; he volunteered also in construction, design and renovations at local congregations; and helped during COVID with regional food distribution relief through Jehovah’s Witnesses. He was a part of the search and rescue team in Ithaca. He was an avid scuba diver and scuba instructor in Ithaca and Webster. He was excited to be an instructor for Pisces School of Dive. William was a passionate foodie; he was well known for his excessive generosity, sharing his famous ribs, freshly baked bread, and his love of cheese. He enjoyed pottery, photography and astronomy. He taught himself architecture and design and in turn taught his children engineering and architectural principles. He diligently explained the reasons for every aspect of the home that they built together, as well as scrupulous safety standards. He was known to many as a selfless man, always thinking of others before himself even putting the completion of his own home on hold to assist others. He was always ready for his loved ones with a sense of humour, robust laugh, great storytelling, and apple fritters.
He is survived by his wife Aileene M. (Jungton) Weaver whom he married on September 8, 1979, two children: William A. Weaver III of Buffalo, Jacquelyn Weaver of Toronto, Canada, mother-in-law: Stella Jungton of Ontario, Canada, Bill’s siblings were: Timothy (Marion) Weaver of Virginia, L’Tanya (Weaver) Johnson, Ronald (Susan) Weaver of Ithaca, Marcia Weaver and Constance Weaver all of Liverpool, NY, along with many nieces, nephews, and friends that were considered extensions of his family.
A Celebration of William’s life will be held on Saturday, September 28 at 2pm at the Rock Glen Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses 4261 State Route 19, Silver Springs, New York.
