Castile, NY - Stephen Rogler Morey, "Steve" or Steve-O to his close friends, tragically left us too soon on December 27, 2024. Our world became a much sadder place, he was a beloved man and all out great guy. His friend Jordyn reflected that heaven just got one of its coolest angels!
Steve was born July 7, 1982 to Marsha and Jim Morey in Rochester, New York. He was raised in Wyoming, New York and educated locally. He attended Genesee Community College and received his Associates degree in Science in 2003. He then went on to receive his Bachelor of Arts in History at Hobart College.
Steve's forte was cooking which ranged from pub fare to gourmet. Whatever it was, it was wonderful! For years, he worked at the Amber Lantern in Warsaw, New York. He also worked for the Warsaw Vets Club where he made many life-long friendships. At one point, Steve was working at both places at the same time.
He had numerous interests; Steve adored his animals: Rip, his dog, and his three cats: Oscar the Grouch, Stella, and Goose. To him, they were his children. His kind friend Emma took all four animals with plans to keep them together. This surely would make him smile. He loved Silver Lake at the Morey cottage, the cookouts, lake time, and having fun with his family. His favorite day was July 3rd. We would have a traditional party for all the summer birthdays and then go down to the lake for the Ring of Fire celebration and fireworks. Sundays were another favorite. He and his best friends, Pete and Cory, gathered for football (Go Buffalo Bills) and delicious food. When football was over, their gatherings continued and it became their Sunday tradition. Steve was highly intelligent, also an avid reader and enjoyed golf. Steve was a music lover and used to play the guitar. He and his friends frequently attended concerts and festivals.
If you knew him, you knew that Steve loved The Grateful Dead the best, liked the Allman Brothers, and many others too. He also enjoyed memorable excursions; camping, hiking, Letchworth State Park and trips with his "Mom" and older siblings.
What was most important about Steve was what was in his heart and who he was really like as a person. Steve was an awesome friend, kind and compassionate, but was also funny as hell and he always made people laugh. He was low key and down to earth, but was a great listener and always an an enthusiastic supporter of his friends.
Steve was generous in spirit and his actions reflected this. His friend Laycee told us about the time when she didn't have a car, that Steve picked her up for work every day and drove her to run all her errands. At the Warsaw Vets Club, Steve dropped off money for the Veterans at the bar on Veterans Day every single year.
Cory said, "Steve was 100 percent authentic. What you saw was what you got. He was a hard person not to love." We know he was one of a kind and had more loving friends than most people would have in a lifetime.
Steve is preceded in death by his Mother (Marsha Rogler Morey) and Father (James Newman Morey) and his unofficial "Mom" (Frances Rogers Morey). His survivors include his four siblings, Allison (Dennis) Morey Hays, David Newman Morey, Dinah (Griff) Lawrence Godwin, and John (Genevieve) Rogers Morey. His nieces and nephews are Alexandra (Charles) Carson Mott, and Zachary James Hays, Anna (Nathan) Lawrence Beavers and Sarah Katherine Godwin, Carson James Morey and Sydney Suzanne Morey. Great nephew and niece, Jackson James Mott and Leah Kate Beavers, and Uncle Thomas (Ingrid) Rogler, plus many dear cousins.
