Regina N. Gavlak, age 84, of Perry died on Monday April 13, 2015 at the Wyoming County Community Hospital in Warsaw.
She was born in New York City, New York on February 17, 1931 a daughter of the late George and Anna (Michalec) Petrovitz.
Regina grew up in New York City and settled in Perry after her marriage to John J. Gavlak where they raised her large family. She was a secretary for the Perry Herald for several years and later for Archway Cookies where she worked for 16 years retiring in 1993.
She was a member of St. Isidore’s Catholic Parish (St. Joseph’s Church), the Women of the Church and Wyoming County Home Bureau. She attended BOCES where she took up floral design, she was a former den mother for Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts, and was a room mother for a Parent Teacher Association in New Jersey. She enjoyed doing crafts, knitting, and reading.
She is survived by 3 daughters: Karen (Douglas) Heiby of Perry, Mary Jane Gavlak of Snowflake, Az., Regina (Russell) Flint of Warsaw, 3 sons: David Gavlak of Syracuse, Steven Gavak of Warsaw, Michael Gavlak of San Fidel, N.M., a sister: Carole (Gerald) Theurich of Corning, 6 grandchildren: Timothy (Bridget) Gavlak, Derek (Heather) Heiby, Devon (James) Abejo, Julie, Thomas and John Grills, 2 great grandsons: Ethan and Trenton Gavlak, along with many nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents she is preceded in death by her husband John J. Gavlak who died on October 26, 2014 and a brother George Petrovitz.
There will be no prior visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial in Honor of John and Regina will be held on Friday April 17th at 11:00am at St. Isidore’s Catholic Parish (St. Joseph’s Church) in Perry.
She will be laid to rest in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Perry, New York.
(In lieu of flowers) Memorials may be made to the Wyoming County Office of the Aging 8 Perry Ave. Warsaw, NY 14569 or to the American Lung Association 55 W. Wacker Drive, Suite 1150, Chicago, IL 60601.
