Marjorie E. Hance Cowie, age 86, of Castile, Perry and then Warsaw passed away on Friday September 2, 2022 at the Wyoming County Skilled Nursing Home in Warsaw.
She was born in Rochester, NY on January 28, 1936 a daughter to the late Thomas Claire and Phyllis Gertrude (Packard) Hance.
Marge was number four of six children, living on Pickett Street in Castile. A graduate of Letchworth Central School class of 1953. She had a love of music playing oboe for the high school band and orchestra, and sang in the school and church choir.
She married the late Merle Cowie in 1955. She and Merle ran a dairy farm for many years in Perry where she learned to milk cows and do hay. After the sale of the farm she went to work for Wyoming County Bank/Five Star Bank where she worked for over 37 years at several of their branches.
Marge was a member of the First Congregational Church in Perry Center, she enjoyed photography, many of her photos were used for the banks annual calendar and entered into the Pike Fair, she also enjoyed Letchworth State Park, going for walks, the beauty of flowers, tending to her gardens, hummingbirds, and baking, as long as someone was around to eat her goodies. She had a meticulous yard and gardens making sure no dandelions popped up or any walnuts laid on the ground.
She is survived by 3 daughters: Merleen Hilley of Punta Gorda, Fl., Marleen (Steve Smith) Cowie of Perry, Michelle (Tony) Dukes of Penfield, son: Marty (Linda) Cowie of Phoenix, AZ., 1 brother: Kenneth (Joyce) Hance of Castile, 3 grandchildren: Brent Parmelee, Patrick Cowie and Ashlee Wilson-Cowie, 4 step-grandchildren: Jeremy (Joette) Smith, Stephanie (Paul) Weber, Scott (Jen) Smith, Stewart (Eric) Smith, 4 great grandchildren, 8 Step great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren, along with a slew nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents she is preceded in death by her former husband: Merle Cowie, 3 sisters: Clarice (Edward) McCaffery, Phyllis (Arthur) Oliver, Verna (James) McAdam, brother: Frederick (Jane) Hance
Family and friends may call from 3-7pm on Wednesday October 12th at the Eaton-Watson Funeral Home, LLC. 98 North Main St in Perry.
A Memorial service will be held on Thursday October 13th at 10am at the First Congregational Church 7209 State Route 20A in Perry Center.
Marge will be laid to rest in Macedon Center Cemetery in Macedon Center.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Congregational Church in Perry Center.
