Julie K. Sanford, age 84 of Geneseo formerly of Perry, passed away on Tuesday April 24, 2018 at her home.
She was born in Rochester, NY on November 11,1933 a daughter to the late Henry J. Keyser and Phebe Laraby Merwin.
She received her master’s degree at the University of Rochester.
Julie was a registered nurse who worked several years at Rochester General Hospital, taught nursing at the School of Nursing at Wyoming County Community Hospital in Warsaw and retired from Perry Central School in 1989 where she was the nurse educator.
She was a member of the Brick Presbyterian Church in Perry where she was a former elder and deacon, member of the Perry Teacher’s Association where she was a former President, former President of the Perry Alumni Association, member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, the Beta Gamma Chapter (Women’s Teachers Educational) where she was a former President of the Chapter and chairman of a committee at state level. A member of the Order of Eastern Star #497 in Perry and former member of the Silver Lake Country Club. She volunteered many years with the American Cancer Society and was a foster parent for many. She enjoyed golfing traveling and her pets.
She is survived by a daughter: Janet (Adam) Finley of Holland, NY, 2 sons: Jerry (Kimberly) Sanford of Geneseo and Jeffrey (Deborah) Sanford of Bangor, ME., a sister-in-law: Sharon Sanford and brother-in-law: Fred Sanford both of Fl., 6 grandchildren: Alexandra “Lexi” (Sam) Lerner, Catherine “Cassie” (fiancé-Mark) Leggiero, Ashley (Robert) Molinaro, Jeff (Leslie) Sharkey, Matthew and Neil Finley, 3 great granddaughters: Gabriel, Olivia and Paige, 1 niece: Ellen, 3 nephews: Doug, Dave and Clark.
A Memorial service will be held on Saturday May 19th at the Brick Presbyterian Church on North Main St. in Perry at 1:00 P.M..
She will be laid to rest in Hope Cemetery in Perry, NY.
(In lieu of flowers) Memorials may be made to the Brick Presbyterian Church 6 Church St, Perry, NY 14530 or to the University of Rochester School of Nursing 601 Elmwood Avenue
