John R. Hurst

John R. Hurst, age 88 of Castile, NY passed away on Wednesday, July 24, 2024 at the Wyoming County Community Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on April 30,1936 in Buffalo, NY a son to the late Albert E. and Matilda M. (Meyer) Hurst.
John was a 1953 graduate of Fosdick Masten High School in Buffalo. He and his late wife owned and operated Hurst Acres Farm in Warsaw, selling the farm in 2000.
He was a member of the Castile United Church of Christ in Castile, Castile Fire Department and Castile Silver and Gold Club. A former member of the Masonic Lodge of the Free and Accepted Masons Post # 549. He served on the Board for the Town of Castile and Castile Public Library. He was a former member for the Wyoming County Community Hospital Board and Wyoming Central School. He enjoyed tending to his vegetable garden and reading.
He is survived by a son: John W. (Deborah) Hurst of Wyoming, a daughter: Rebecca S. (Thomas) Bush of Perry, sister: Susan Fehr of Akron, 7 grandchildren: Amanda (Scott) Savidge, Jared (Jennifer) Hurst, Diana (Christopher) Carney, Lauren Shearing, Colin (Andie) Shearing, Mikayla Bush and Matthew Bush, 6 great grandchildren: Justin and Brennan Savidge, Clare Hurst, Jack and Jennifer Carney and Bryson Shearing, along with many nieces, nephews and friends.
Along with his parents he is preceded in death by his wife: Irma who passed away in 2022, son: Paul who passed away in 2000, siblings: Jeannette (Arthur) Rodenbach, Albert (Evelyn) Hurst, Charles Hurst and brother-in-law: Paul Fehr.
Family and friends may call from 4-7pm on Sunday July 28th at the Eaton-Watson Funeral Home 98 north Main St. in Perry.
Funeral services will be held on Monday July 29th at 3pm at the funeral home.
John will be laid to rest in Glenwood Cemetery in Perry.
