Jean M. Canright, age 96 of Warsaw, NY formerly of Silver Lake, NY passed away on Wednesday October 23, 2024 at Wyoming County Skilled Nursing Facility where she had been residing.
She was born in Shanhaikuan, China where the Great Wall meets the sea on January 24,1928 a daughter to the late Dr. Cyril M. and Winifred L. (Stoody) Canright while they were on medical missionaries in China.
She was a graduate of Cranford High School in Cranford, New Jersey and Drew University in Madison, New Jersey where she studied Elementary Education.
Jean was an elementary teacher working for her former alumni in Cranford, New Jersey and eventually moving to Warsaw Elementary School teaching kindergarten through 2nd grade in her years of teaching. After retirement she owned and operated the former Balloon Magic store in Perry.
Jean always valued education, and encouraging her children in their pursuits in the arts, sciences, traveling, promoting peace and diversity. Her love of Silver Lake remained with her through her lifetime. Her late grandfather Rev. John Stoody was one of the founding members of the Silver Lake Institute. Jean enjoyed sewing, knitting, traveling, camping, swimming, entertaining, and spending time especially at holiday times at her parent’s farm in Warren, New Jersey when families would gather together.
She is survived by her daughters: Cynthia L. (Philip) Marino of Rochester, Lauren B. (David Andrew Inlow) Loeber of Perry, 1 son: William M. (Deborah Lester) Loeber of Seattle WA., 4 grandchildren: Nathan Caito, Emily (Joshua) Bruegger, Nicholas (Tasha George-Hinnant) Marino and Katherine Marino, 1 great grandson: David Bruegger, 2 step-great grandchildren: Emily and Lola Bruegger along with many nieces, nephews, friends, colleagues and relatives.
Along with her parents she is preceded in death by 2 husbands: William Loeber and Joseph Pokorny and siblings: Patricia Garrity and John (Betty Lou) Canright.
A Celebration of Jean’s life will be announced at a future date.
