Helen L. Christner, age 78, of Perry Center passed away peacefully at the Wyoming County Community Hospital in Warsaw after a short battle with dementia.
She was born in Warsaw, New York on January 12, 1942 a daughter to the late Arthur M. and Edna I. (Abbott) Bailey.
Helen was a graduate of Perry Central School, class of 1959.
She worked for the former Perry Knitting Mill, Champion Products and retired from Mudpies and Milestones Daycare in Warsaw.
Helen was a member of St Isidore’s Catholic Parish (St. Joseph’s Church) in Perry where she was active with the Catholic Women of Perry.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother (Pootsie) and friend. Her love for Christ, having fun, cooking, baking, playing a game with family members, quiet times just reading a book or doing word searches, or puzzles, the love of children and joking will be missed by her family and friends. Her spunk, tenacity, and infectious laugh left a lasting mark on anyone blessed with her presence.
She leaves behind the love of her life, Richard J. Christner whom she married on May 14, 1966, a daughter: Julie (Michael Schlonski) Christner of Perry, granddaughter: Lydia Moens of East Rochester, her puppy Maggie, sister: Joanne (Edwin) Kunkel of Yakima, WA., brother: Charles (Brenda) Bailey of Perry Center, along with many in-laws, nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents she is preceded in death by a sister: Marian Bearsley.
Family and friends may call 2-4 and 7-9pm on Sunday August 2, 2020 at the Eaton-Watson Funeral Home, LLC in Perry where services will be held on Monday August 3rd at 11:00 am.
Helen will be laid to rest in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Perry.
