Gloria J. Brennan

Gloria J. Brennan, 81, formerly of Perry, N.Y., died Nov. 13 at East Side Nursing Home in Warsaw, N.Y. She was born in Westwood, N.J., the daughter of Harold and Jane Foss. Along with her parents, she is predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Robert, a sister, Jane, and a stepbrother, Wheeler Davis III.

Gloria grew up in and around Rockland County, N.Y., and graduated from Congers High School, N.Y., in 1954. She married her high school sweetheart, Robert Brennan, on September 16, 1956. She studied hairdressing in Canton, N.Y., and was a lifelong artist and art instructor.

Upon moving to Perry in 1972, she was active in the formative years of Arts Council of Wyoming County and won numerous awards over the years at the Letchworth Art Show and elsewhere in the region. She was a religious education teacher at St. Josephs and St. Stanislaus and with her husband led married couple retreats through the Rochester area.

She is survived by four children: Laura (Bill) Pentland of Rocky Hill, CT; Patrick (Diane) Brennan of Peoria, AZ; Kelly (Romualdo) deSouza of Bloomington, IN; and Janel (Alfred) Tillmann of Hyattsville, MD; and her eight grandchildren: Bridget Brennan of Brooklyn, N.Y., Jonathan Brennan of Los Angeles, CA.., Sarah Pentland of Providence, RI, and Emily Pentland of Rocky Hill, CT, Zarya deSouza of Bloomington, IN, and Joshua, Ava and Nathaniel Tillmann, all of Hyattsville, MD. She is also survived by three sisters, Judy Foss of Virginia, Edna Erven of Florida, and Lorraine Davis of Texas.

There are no calling hours. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Saturday, Nov. 18, at 11:00am at St. Isadore’s Roman Catholic Church (formerly St. Joseph’s), 71 Leicester St., Perry. Burial will be at the columbarium of St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Perry. Memorials may be made to the Community Action of Wyoming County.
