Edwin L. “Sarge” Sargent Sr., age 87 of Perry, NY passed away on Thursday, August 22, 2024 at Buffalo General Hospital.
He was born on May 25,1937 in Warsaw, NY a son to the late Arthur W. Sargent and Gladys A. (Pratt) Sargent-Barnett.
Sarge was a graduate of Letchworth Central School, after graduation he served with the United States Navy. He worked many years for the former Blodgett Foods in Perry Center and retired from Burnwell Gas where he delivered fuel.
He was a member of Old Paths Church in Perry. He was a boy scout in his youth, a little league coach, church school teacher through Bliss Summit Bible Camp, where he taught in Warsaw, Perry, LeRoy and Wyoming schools. He loved to watch baseball and working on yarn crafts where he made many gifts for his loved ones.
He is survived by his wife Donna Moot-Sargent, daughters: Deborah (Chris) Bell of Silver Springs, Julie (John) Forrester of Gainesville, son: John (Jen) Sargent of LeRoy, sister: Ruth Atchley of Albertsville, AL., mother to his children: Lucille Sargent of Perry, 14 grandchildren: Jessica, Jennifer, Joshua, Jocosa, Shyanne, Mike, Chris, Tim, Tony and Tracie, 17 great grandchildren along with many nieces, nephews and friends survive.
Along with his parents he is preceded in death by brothers: Edward his twin and Joseph and a grandson: Cochise Uptegrove.
A Celebration of Sarge’s Life will be held on Saturday September 7th starting at 1pm at the home of his granddaughter Jocosa Mahoney 3742 East Groveland Rd. Mt. Morris, NY 14510.
A Memorial service will be held on Tuesday September 10th at Calvery Chapel (Old Paths) South Main St in Perry at 5:00pm.
Sarge will be laid to rest in the Western New York National Cemetery in Corfu on Friday September 20th at 11:00am.
