Edward Gerald Bennett Sr.

Edward Gerald Bennett Sr., age 87, of Perry passed away at the Absolute Care of Houghton on Monday May 22, 2023 where he had been residing surrounded by his family.

He was born in Groveland Station, NY on December 9,1935 a son to the late Samuel McNair and Ester Irene (Taylor) Bennett.

Ed served with the US Army from 1956-1958 and with the National Guard for many years being discharged in 1975. He worked as a carpenter for Morton Salt Co. in Silver Springs for 35 years retiring in 1998.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, watching baseball games and western movies on the television and was an avid NY Yankees fan. He enjoyed gatherings with his family.

He is survived by 3 sons: Edward (Cindy) Bennett Jr. of Gainesville, Robert Bennett of Castile and Thomas Bennett of Bergen, 7 grandchildren: Dorothea O’Brien, Bridget (James) Burrows, Becky (Jason) Bump, Justin (Bridgette) Bennett, Brittany (Thomas) Mann, Ashley (Matt) Clarey, and Jonathan Bennett,11 great grandchildren: Morgan, Kayla, Leah, Remington, Adeline, Jaeden, Chloie, Elena, Haylee, Bryden and Mya, Siblings: Richard (Anne) Bennett, Geraldine Harrison, Irene Layland, Albert (Elsie) Bennett, Harold (Marilyn) Bennett, William (Sharon) Bennett and David Bennett, along with several nieces, nephews and friends.

Along with his parents he is preceded in death by his wife: Betty Lou (Ellis) Bennett who passed away in 2019, daughters: Teresa Bennett who passed away in 2012, Dottie Bennett who passed away in 2023, grandson Timothy O’Brien who passed away in 1995, and siblings: Samuel (Arlene) Bennett, Grace (Leo) Mitchell, John (Donna) Bennett, Betty (Walter) Ingalls, brother-in-laws: Stanley Harrison and Raymond Layland.

Family and friends may call from 12-2 pm on Sunday June 4th, 2023 at the Eaton-Watson Funeral Home, LLC. 98 North Main St. in Perry where services will follow at 2pm.

Ed will be laid to rest in Glenwood Cemetery in Perry.
