Donald W. Tinkham, age 95 of Silver Springs, NY left this earth peacefully to be with his Lord and Savior on May 21, 2020 at Suzanne’s Comfort Care Home. He was born in Perry, NY on October 14, 1924 to the late Dorr Lavern and Edna (Skinner) Tinkham. Along with his parents he is preceded in death by his precious wife Shirley Alma (Gabbey) Tinkham who passed away in 1996, one sister, Elsie Grace Tinkham and two brothers, Leon Tinkham and David Tinkham
Donald attended Perry Central School. In 1944, he enlisted in the Army and served during WWII, earning the Bronze Star. After returning from Europe, Donald worked at Champion Products in Perry, NY for over 35 years as a Printer. In his spare time, Donald loved to collect and repair old clocks, collect and craft fine wooden mercury barometers, make decorative wooden letter openers and unique walking canes. He spent hours with his family at his beloved Letchworth State Park and owned and managed several rental apartments in Perry, NY. Donald loved the Lord with all his heart, soul and mind. There are many, many people that have a copy of the Ten Commandments, thanks to Donald and his love of the Lord. Donald attended the Perry Baptist Church, the Perry Free Methodist Church and in later years the Silver Lake Mennonite Church.
He is survived by his son, Donald (Martha) Tinkham, Jr of Port Angeles, WA and a daughter, Christine (Russell) Scott of Victor, NY; 2 grandchildren, Sarah (Tony) Whiteside and Seth (Vanessa) Tinkham, 1 step grandchild, Aaron (LeAnn) Scott, 3 great-grandchildren (Carter, Grayson and Logan Tinkham) and 2 step great-grandchildren (Kaylee and Wren Scott), along with nieces and nephews. He is also survived by Agnese Hume, a friend for several years after his precious wife, Shirley, died.
The family would like to especially thank Cathy Keaton for her skillful and tender care for Donald during the last 18 months of his life. She became a trusted and loyal caregiver to him. We also thank the volunteers at Suzanne’s Comfort Care Home for the continuous care they gave Donald over the last six weeks.
There will be no prior calling hours; a Memorial Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date. He will be laid to rest in Glenwood Cemetery.
